Guru Nanak Jayanti Teachings of Guru Nanak Ji

The birthday of Shri Guru Nanak is also celebrated on the day of Kartik Purnima. The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak or Guru Purab/Guru Parva is the most revered day celebrated by the Sikh community. The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, commemorates the birth of Guru Nanak. It is also known as Gurupurab/Guru Parva, which means 'Festival of Gurus'. Guru Nanak gives the message of inherent morality, hard work and truth. This day is celebrated with great faith and collective spirit and effort, with enthusiasm all over the world.

There was a great saint named Guru Nanak Dev Ji in India 500 years ago. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a resident of Punjab. Guru Nanak Dev ji had spread the importance of spirituality, unity with God, and devotion to Baghdad. Today, the Sikh community celebrates the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and it is an important day for the Sikh community. Today is also Kartik Purnima, and on this day Lord Mahavira, the headmaster of Jainism, had received enlightenment. There were ten Gurus in Sikhism, and Guru Nanak Dev Ji was the first Guru (founder of Sikhism). The stories of all the ten Gurus of the Sikh tradition are joyful and uplifting - they reflect their renunciation. The Gurus had sacrificed everything to protect the good, innocent and religious people. In simple words, knowledge was imparted to the people by the Gurus.

What was the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji?

Guru Nanak Dev ji spoke about the nectar-devotional juice of devotion. Guru Nanak Dev Ji was a devotee fully immersed in Bhakti Yoga, while Guru Gobind Singh was a Karma Yogi (who believed in performing his Karma or Karma). When people get entangled in worldly matters, Guru Nanak Dev ji inspired them to go inward - that was their message. Guru Nanak Dev Ji said, "Don't get entangled in so many worldly matters that you forget God's name.

Today, on Guru Nanak Dev's birthday, we should remind ourselves that we should not get entangled with Maya. Let us be happy, keep others happy, pray, serve and work to protect religion.
