1) India is placed eighth on the overall medal tally with one gold and two bronze medals at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2021 at Almaty, Kazakhstan.

  • Scripting a sensational comeback, an aggressive Sarita Mor reeled off nine straight points in the summit clash to retain her Asian Championship title in 59kg while Seema Bisla (50kg) and Pooja (76kg) settled for bronze medals at the continental Championship.

3) Amid concerns over shortage of medical oxygen as coronavirus wreaks havoc in the country, the Centre directed the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) to identify 100 more hospitals in far flung locations for sanctioning money from PM-CARES Fund for installation of their own oxygen plants.

4) State of Manipur presented its Annual Action Plan under Jal Jeevan Mission via video conferencing.

5) In a major step to ramp up vaccine production amid the Covid-19 second wave, the Centre has approved production of Corona vaccines from the Maharashtra  government-owned Haffkine Institute in Mumbai.

6) An apex body of Naga tribes has asked the Nagaland government not to be hasty with the exercise to prepare the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN), seen as a variant of Assam’s National Register of Citizens.

Union Minister of State Development of North Eastern Region, Dr. Jitendra Singh addressed the “Amazon Sambhav online Summit” on 16 Apr’21. The theme of the summit was “Unlocking Infinite Possibilities for India”.

 The Centre has decided to depute 25 doctors and 75 paramedics from the paramilitary forces at an upcoming 900-bed COVID hospital being set up by DRDO in Ahmedabad.

9) New Zealand has become the first country to introduce a law that will require banks, insurers and investment managers to report the impacts of climate change on their business.

This law will bring climate risks and resilience into the heart of financial and business decision making.

11) NASA awarded billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's space company SpaceX a $2.9 billion contract to build a spacecraft to bring astronauts to the moon as early as 2024.

The U.S. space agency awarded the contract for the first commercial human lander, part of its Artemis program. NASA said the lander will carry two American astronauts to the lunar surface.
