- PM Modi will launch Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention 2021 on Jan 9 Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate the 16th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention on Saturday. The theme of the convention, aimed at encouraging Indian diaspora to be part of socio-economic development in India, is 'contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat', the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement. President Ram Nath Kovind will address the valedictory session.
- Current rules don't permit us to have transgenders in NCC: DG TK Aich National Cadet Corps (NCC) DG Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich has said that as per the current NCC's rules, there is no clause to enrol a transgender in the organisation. "As you will appreciate and agree with me that you cannot have a boy, girl and a transgender community or category because you need numbers of them," Aich added.
- JAMMU & KASHMIR bans import of poultry till Jan 14 amid bird flu outbreak Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday banned the import of poultry until January 14. In the order issuing the ban, Principal Secretary of J&K Agriculture Production and Farmer's Welfare Department Navin Choudhary cited the spread of bird flu in neighboring states. The order called the ban "a measure of abundant precaution".
- Chaos at Delhi airport after AAP govt issues new rules; passenger shares videos The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi witnessed chaos among passengers on Friday after AAP-led Delhi government issued fresh guidelines for passengers returning from UK, which made institutional quarantine mandatory even on testing negative for coronavirus. Several passengers shared their grievances on Twitter, with one sharing videos showing passengers arguing with airport officials.

- I will not attend Biden’s inauguration on Jan 20: Trump US President Donald Trump on Friday tweeted, "To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to [President-elect Joe Biden's] inauguration on January 20th." He will reportedly be the first incumbent president since Andrew Johnson to skip his successor's inauguration. This comes after Trump said that he'd focus on ensuring "smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power".
